The Old Man of Tiritiri Matangi - BOOK

The Old Man of Tiritiri Matangi - BOOK

“Imagine that a 950 year old New Zealand Pohutukawa tree could talk. Now imagine the stories it would tell you about the incredible things it has seen - like the volcanic eruptions that set the sea on fire and then created the island of Rangitoto. Or the Moa, a big gentle bird, and the Haas’s Eagle, known as the Lion of the Sky, both of whom no longer exist …

… My name is Paikea and I live on Hobbs Beach on the island of Tiritiri Matangi. When you read my story you will want to come and sit on the little rock by my majestic roots and talk to me. I will be waiting for you.”

Written in 2017 by Berni Albrighton who had visited this beautiful island (you’ll find it off the Northern tip of North Island, New Zealand), it is a beautifully written story concerning all the wildlife she encountered there and you will be able to read about the funny antics of some of the animals which she also saw.

With a forward by the late David Bellamy, this is a fantastic insight into a real life conservation island where all these animals and plants live so you can see them for yourself. Thoroughly engaging, it draws you into the stories narrated by “the Old Man” himself and takes you on a charming adventure from “way back then” to “right now”.

Only three copies remain, all are co signed by myself (illustrator) and Berni herself.
